Are You Happy?

The newly waning moon was bright in the morning sky as Soryu and I moved from the lower zendo to the upper zendo after chanting to prepare for morning interviews. I noticed it as I rushed up the steps. Inside the mudroom, Soryu asked if I saw the moon. I said, “Yes”. He asked, “Are you happy?”. I took a moment to consider and said, “No”. He asked again if I had seen the moon. I replied again, yes. He said, “Then why aren’t you happy?”
