Immortality pill 6

I was with Soryu in San Fransisco at a public meditation event, and a participant asked him, “Many people are now claiming that medicine will be able to reverse aging, so that we will never die. If there were a pill that could achieve this, would you take it?”

He said, “It’s good that you ask this question. Those developing this technology do not themselves know how to answer your question. You point at a fundamental conflict within their ideology.

“Their religion wishes to improve humans, so as to make humans safe. To improve humans, you must change the way humans are. This is not safe for them. To keep humans safe, you must prevent them from changing.

“These people want to take away the most fundamental quality of humans: death. They want to take away the most human of things: vulnerability. This destroys what it is to be human. It destroys what it is to be alive.

“These people do not understand change. They do not even understand why we have bodies and minds.

“The purpose of body and mind is to protect us from ourselves. When body and mind fall apart at the moment of death, we are vulnerable to what we have done. They find this frightening, but vulnerability to our actions is meaning. Vulnerability to our actions is the purpose of life. To take this away is to take away the point of being alive.

“They want to take the pill to remain human. They also want to take the pill in order to change the human. They are caught in their own ideological conflict, because their ideology is made for insecure, gullible fools.”
