I was sitting in the back while Soryu gave interviews to his other students. I was watching them in preparation for my own training as a teacher.
In between interviews, he looked out the window and asked me, “Why do they stand there?”
Lots of people would ‘prepare’ for their interview by getting up when their turn was approaching. Somehow they would know when their turn was coming up, presumably by attending to various signs and signals.
The sound of the interview bell is the start of the interview. Soryu demonstrated what it looks like to wait for the bell, with no room for attending to anything else. He looked fully absorbed by his focus.
“Don’t they know how hard this is?” Soryu asked.
